Although sales is complex and an approach to a successful sales depends upon what we are selling and where we are selling. But still if I sum up my sales experience, I see three golden rules of sales applicable in all industries, every geographic region and on all possible mediums. What is sales? “Sales is Convincing”. Means the more credible your sales is the more successful you will be.
Rule 1: Be honest to your customers and never sell what your product/service do not deliver. Specially in online sales, the environment is virtual and we often try to over portray our product and service because customer cannot experience it. Be in the shoes of your customer and understand his need. For those who think honest sales leads to less sales are just money grabbers with no idea on how much a customer can be profitable even after the initial purchase.
Rule 2: Make your customers experience the product or service atlease at some level before you sell. This creates a very positive impression and credibility. Customer is a golden bird once he start trusting on you. Giving proof of product will lead to customer trust on your product and future upselling.
Rule 3: Do not block block and throw the customer to support team after sales. The most profitable aspect of sales is upselling, cross selling and retention. Sales person, being the first one to interact with customer, is always the best friend of customer. Never try to cut of with your customer once you are done with sales. Make it a daily KPI to interact with your customers and it will be of utmost success when it comes to “sell more”
The above three things are well know by all but are often not reflected in sales approach. They should be adopted and beneficial and ethical rules of sales.
