Producing A Responsible Workforce

Producing-A-Responsible-Workforce

Its rightly said that people are assets for companies, specially in this competitive environment where brains have a lot of responsibility. But having a workforce of responsible individuals is something more than just asset, it is your game changing asset. In today’s competitive and dynamic environment, where everything seems to be changing rapidly, it is far more difficult to monitor manage and control workforce and so developing sense of responsibility is one single most important and most difficult factor.

Professionally, there are three things in your control that makes your workforce responsible.

The Compensation: The value an organization gives to the services an employee is offering is an important factor contributing to the overall responsibility level. Compensation is not just about the monetary salary but include alot of factors such as, value, recognition, employee being affiliated with a big names, an excellent working environment, and so on. Some companies – which are financially strong – value services of employees through monetary compensations while others do it through alternate factors. Whatever your financial situation is, a set of excellent compensation factors which an employee gets nowhere else, are important contributor to the overall responsibility level of your workforce.

Being Responsible: If you want your workforce to be responsible for the company and the work they do then you in return need to responsible for your employees. The world we are living in still holds high value for professional ethics. To make people responsible it is important that policies, procedures and overall attitude of an organization towards its employees is based on high moral and ethical values with elements of care and honor. This is where the true role of HR comes in. For an employee to be responsible, he should perceive that he is being developed, trained, taken care of and being provided with a balanced and ideal professional life. Warning! it has been observed that sometimes some individuals start taking the caring attitude of organization for granted.

Competition: It is ground reality that the fear and insecurity of leaving a good working environment is always something that makes people responsible in their work. Planting some level of insecurity is not something always cruel and negative – Compare yourself taking care of a “baby” in your room with taking care of a “baby” on a road. You will always be more responsible and alert on road side, because the environment is more insecure – Same applies in work scenario. A balanced indirect competition through rewards, punishments, fellow employees etc will make your employees more responsible, provided that the first two things are perfect.

So if you find that your workforce is not responsible and make the business suffer, then its time to think on the factors of Compensation, Organizational Attitude and Internal Competition.
